Next Steps
A Guide and a Prayer to help you find a deeper relationship with God
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. John 3:16 (The Message).
So often we remove ourselves from God’s love because of our history, our past mistakes, and failures. Sin has separated us from God and we can never make up for our sin by good works. So you might ask, how we can accept what we haven’t earned? The Bible says that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, our Lord. To accept God’s love is to recognize He is patient with us, not wanting any of us to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent, to turn away from their sin, those things that separate us from God and follow Him.
To become a follower of Jesus, or to receive His love means that we need to submit to God and His plan and purpose for our lives. It is choosing to turn from our old ways and to follow Jesus. To ask Him for forgiveness from all our sins (wrongdoings) and to give us a new life in Him.
“If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. Romans 10:9
Salvation is God’s free gift to us and we become His children. It is acceptance into the family of God and it is an empowerment to reflect God to those around us. If you are not sure whether you are right with God or you know in fact that you need Jesus in your life, you can choose to follow Him right now by praying a prayer of surrender to Jesus.
Dear Jesus, I recognize I have done wrong and I have lived my life without you. I am sorry for all those things that I’ve done that have separated me from your love. Thank you for dying on the cross and raising to life again to forgive me for my sins. I now receive your love and grace and ask that you would please be my Lord and Saviour. Help me to reflect your love to others around me so that they too can accept you as their Lord and Saviour. This I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
